Wireless audio systems have become an essential tool for musicians, but crowded RF environments often make stable wireless transmission difficult. Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth devices, and other wireless systems all compete for space in the same spectrum, which can cause dropouts, interference, or unstable signals.

To address these challenges, NUX developed Smart (Intelligent) Frequency Hopping, a core technology used in its PRO wireless series, including systems such as the B-8 guitar wireless system, B-6 Pro wind instrument system, and B-7 Pro in-ear monitor system.

This technology continuously monitors the wireless environment and dynamically selects the best available transmission channel—ensuring stable, high-quality audio even in complex stage environments.

How does it work?

NUX PRO wireless systems operate in the globally available 2.4 GHz frequency band, which is widely used for wireless communication. However, because this band is shared by many devices, interference can occur during performances.

NUX’s intelligent frequency hopping system solves this problem by constantly scanning the 2.4 GHz spectrum while the system is in use. When interference is detected, the system automatically switches to a cleaner channel in real time.

Like a jazz musician who always finds the right note — when interference pops up, it instantly “changes key,” to not miss a beat...

In this illustration, the blue signal represents the 1 MHz signal used by NUX PRO gear, which jumps around the green 4 MHz WIFI signal whenever the system detects interference with your NUX Pro wireless system.

Cool Tech, But Why Stick with 2.4 GHz?

When we were designing our NUX PRO Wireless lineup, we were thinking about artists, bands, and musicians who travel to play. Those who live to play.

The 2.4 GHz ISM band (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical) is license-free in virtually every country, making it ideal for wireless musical equipment designed for global use

For touring musicians, this means having a wireless system that can be used almost anywhere WITHOUT worrying about local frequency laws and restrictions.

Countries with Frequency Restrictions

  • Some EU countries (5.8 GHz restriction)
  • United Kingdom (5.8 GHz restriction)
  • Japan (5.8 GHz restriction)
  • Australia (5.8 GHz restriction)
  • China (5.8 GHz restriction)

We agree with everyone, operating at the 5.8 GHz band has its benefits and features!

We even built a wireless guitar system that operates at 5.8 GHz!

While 5.8 GHz systems can provide cleaner spectrum in some environments due to fewer competing devices, they typically trade this advantage for reduced range and weaker obstacle penetration.

This got us thinking...

If we can develop a feature that lets you enjoy the benefits of 2.4 GHz, while also getting the signal stability of 5.8 GHz, then it is a win-win!

Features we thought about when solving the problems of 2.4 GHz

  • It must have a solid, interference-free signal connection
  • It must not degrade the audio quality

Our Solution = The 'Smart Frequency Hopping System'

  • Operates at 2.4 GHz but actively moves around the bandwidth to find the cleanest channel.
  • Incorporated our Audio Zip/Unzip Technology to preserve the quality of your tone.

In order for us to make the signal "hop", it has to be thin and light!

1 MHz Narrowband Transmission For Improved Spectrum Efficiency

This process, which we included with the PRO series, reduces the channel bandwidth from 2 MHz to 1 MHz, significantly improving utilization of the 2.4 GHz band and increasing the number of available channels to up to 79.

This gives intelligent frequency-hopping technology more channels to effectively avoid interference from Wi-Fi and other wireless devices.

All of this is especially helpful in environments crowded with other wireless equipment. This makes it easier for our PRO wireless gear to stay stable and have reliable signal transmission.

In short

We compressed the bandwidth so the signal can squeeze and move around the signal with ease!

Like a motorcycle navigating through heavy traffic more easily than a truck...

Think of this freeway as the 2.4 GHz channel, your NUX Pro signal is like a motorcycle (1 MHz) that can squeeze and move around easily across lanes than a truck (4 MHz)!

Does compressing the bandwidth reduce audio quality?

Not with NUX, no!

Powered by NUX’s advanced Audio Zip/Unzip technology, it delivers 24-bit / 48 kHz high-quality audio even within the narrow 1 MHz bandwidth with no degradation!

All of this WHILE supporting a full frequency response of 20 Hz–20 kHz.

The result is a wider, more natural sound, making monitoring through your B-7 Pro wireless in-ear monitor system truly immersive!

Which also means that playing through your B-8 Pro wireless guitar system or your B-6 Pro wind + brass wireless microphone gives you crystal-clear audio quality you expect!

So what's next?

We're happy to share that NUX is working on some cool wireless gear stuff that:

  • Utilizes the frequency hopping feature
  • May operate at 5.8 GHz (emphasis on "may")
  • Let you use even more wireless gear in the same environment
  • Offers more stability through actual better hardware
