Dual-zone means the pad has two separate trigger areas — usually the drum head (center) and the rim (edge) — so you can play two different sounds from the same pad. This means you're able to closely play like as if you're playing an acoustic drum set.
The DM-8 comes with drum pads and cymbals that have dual-zone triggers. The independent snare that comes with this kit has a triple-zone triggers which even lets you play rimshots and cross-stick naturally.
